Rough & Slope Management
Although golf course rough and slopes are less important to maintain, they should be maintained for the aesthetic aspect of the golf course.
SLOPE, a part of the rough of a golf course, meaning 'slope'.
'Slpoe' in Korean means 'slope' . 'Slpoe' (法面), which has been used a lot for a long time, is a term commonly used in landslide prevention construction sites or forestry civil engineering construction sites and is a Japanese notation. It means 'a slope created by a bank slope, revetment, or land cutting.' Slope (傾斜面) and slope (斜面) are written in Chinese characters.
The slope is an important part of the course where a lot of activity takes place, including tee shots, golf carts and golfer movement, and must also provide a beautiful natural view.
Due to climate change, long rainy seasons, increased rainfall days, and frequent guerrilla rainstorms, it is not easy to manage slopes in most domestic golf courses located in mountainous terrain. Continuous rain can weaken the ground and cause partial collapse (wedge erosion) when rainwater that has penetrated the soil exceeds the soil moisture saturation limit, or cause collapse when the inside of the slope slides due to moisture saturation.
Therefore, dangerous slopes are covered with landscape trees to ensure minimal safety and improve the landscape.
On the other hand, if you plant regular grass on the slope and keep it low , you can use the playing surface more widely, which has the effect of expanding the playable area. In addition, you can find the ball that fell on the slope relatively easily, so you do not waste unnecessary time. A neat landscape is enough to give a more pleasant feeling.
On the other hand, if you add up the labor costs for the work, equipment fuel costs, maintenance costs, pesticide and fertilizer spraying, irrigation costs, etc., the management time and cost increase. Therefore, areas adjacent to fairways or cart paths are managed low using grass, etc., and the boundary is divided into a semi-managed area by planting mainly grass and shrubs.

ROUGH, refers to rough grass other than the fairway within the course.
Rough refers to 'any part of the course other than the fairway', excluding the green and hazards.
When playing, you mostly play in two spaces, excluding tee shots and putts.
If we look at the dictionary definition of 'Rough', it means "uneven or rough surface." From a golf perspective, in terms of golf course design or maintenance, it means 'leaving longer and thicker grass on the edge of the fairway.'
The more prestigious the golf course, the more often the rough is divided into two stages. The area left slightly longer than the fairway is called the 'First Cut' , and the slightly longer rough area is called the 'Second Cut' . Dividing the rough into two stages can be quite a hassle in terms of management, but it can have the advantage of increasing the aesthetic value of the golf course and making the results of shots more diverse.
Rough is the area that takes up the largest area of grass on almost all courses, and although it is relatively low in importance for management, it is expensive and difficult to maintain due to its area.
Forecasting and Management
- Rough forecast : Most of the grass is maintained at 5.1 to 7.6 cm, and in summer, it is maintained at 7.6 to 10.15 cm.
- Rough warning cycle : Usually 1-2 times a week
