Topdressing: This is the process of shallowly applying sand or soil to the lawn.
- The act of gathering and supporting the soil under the crops, or the soil used for that purpose. It has the effect of eliminating weeds, helping with drainage, and increasing ground temperature to promote root development.
-Topping is an important task that corrects the irregularities of the green, breaks down the substitutes, and forms new soil.
-The normal rate is 1.3mm every 15 days. After vertical, 1.5mm is recommended, and after aeration, 3mm is recommended.
-The most important thing after planting is cleaning up the sand.
Glossary of Terms
- Steel drag mat : A field equipment widely used to level and smooth soil, sand or clay surfaces.
- Thatch: refers to the mixed organic layer of shoots, stems, and roots of dead and living plants.
Aged grass on the lawn causes poor grass growth. Thatch is formed between the grass above ground and the topsoil. Korean grass contains relatively much lignin tissue that lignifies the plant, so a thick layer of thatch is formed despite its low growth. There are vertical mowing, brushing, and sweeping to remove thatch.

LDS(Locallized Dry Spot)
-토양 내 유기물이 많거나, 대취층이 두껍거나, 굵은 모래가 지나치게 많아 건조에 취약하면 드라이스팟의 원인이 될 수 있다.
-미생물의 유기물 부내과정과 균류가 만들어내는 점질성 물질이 토양 입자를 토팅하면서 물이 토양 입자표면에 흡착되는 것을 방해하면서 발생하기도 한다.
드라이스팟은 토양이 소수성(Hydrophobicicity, Water repellent=물과 친화력이 적은 성질)을 가짐으로서 발생한다.
-일시적인 과건조가 되지않게 수시로 살수하고, 계면활성제를 이용하여 수분의 이동을 원활하게 해주는 방법과
-무기성 토양개량제(점토소성물)인 보수력제를 통기작업 후 배토작업시 일정 비율로 모래와 혼합하여 통기구멍에 채워 넣는 방법이 있다.
-계면활성제 : 묽은 용액속에서 계면에 흡착하여 표면장력을 감소시키는 것으로 물질의 고체,액체,기체의 3가지상에서 2가지 상의 경계면 ex) 잔디(고체),물(액체)
-무기성 토양개량제 : 생산성을 높이기 위해 물의 이동, 공기의 유통등 원활한 물질순환을 위해 토양골격을 개량하는 자재

However, excessive topdressing or too low topdressing can cause problems such as poor grass growth, decreased photosynthetic activity of the grass, increased poor ventilation due to soil compaction, and increased moisture content in the soil.
Amount of soil
-Amount of soil: If the amount of soil is too much, the grass leaves will not receive sunlight, which will cause poor growth or suffocation of the grass.
The general soil thickness for greens is 1.5 mm, and 3 mm is good after aeration.
If a 6.4mm thick layer is formed on the green, it is recommended to apply soil with a thickness of 1.6mm, which amounts to 16L per m2.
Amount of soil applied to golf course greens: 6 to 10 mm per year (6 to 10 L per m2)
Amount of soil applied to golf course fairways and tees: 6 to 10 mm per year (6 to 10 L per year)

Leveling the surface using a steel drag mat after sanding is a very important task that helps evenly distribute the sand over the surface and effectively push the sand between the grass.
Topdressing material : Green
- Sand for green bedding: Generally used with particle size of 0.1 to 1.3 mm or less
-The sand for the backfill must be made of the same material as the existing ground.
- It is common to frequently topdress with sand having a particle size ratio of 0.15–0.5 mm of 80% or more.
This size of sand is just right - coarse enough to change the texture of the soil, but not so fine that it seeps easily into the surface of the lawn soil, clogs the pores in the soil surface, or impedes the movement of water.
Rather, sand with a diameter of 1mm or larger does not penetrate well between the grass canopy, so it is collected in the green mower's bucket when cutting the lawn, or it can be a factor in damaging the mower blade. In addition, the playing surface becomes too hard, so there is a problem that the ball does not stand up well when making an approach shot. In addition, the water retention and retention capacity decrease, so the water drainage is too good, so the amount of fertilizer and irrigation increases.
