Green rolling
Green rolling is essential for increasing grass density, improving ball rolling and forming an accurate putting line.
Green Condensation Improvement, Green Rolling

In order to create a green that satisfies players at a speed that does not bounce the ball, and a green hardness that is neither too hard nor too soft, in addition to the daily foreshadowing work that must be done, work is also needed to firm up the green and smooth out the surface.
The effect of rolling
-Maintain an even lawn
-Prevent lifting (soil contact of seeds and rhizomes)
-Prevents grass from drying out (early spring)
-Increased green speed
- Carried out after topdressing when propagating grass
You might think that just cutting the grass short by lowering the cutting height will increase your speed, but in reality, "grass length" is only "one factor". A more important factor than grass length is "rolling".
Greens that are not rolled well are still spongy and soft no matter how short the grass is cut. Such soft greens cannot produce speed.
Normally, the green speed is determined by a combination of grass length and rolling. If the grass is cut short and rolled a lot, the green will inevitably become glassy, like a "board."
If you roll the green properly and make it firm, there will be fewer pitch marks.
Also, if rolled properly, the surface of the green will form a smooth curve, so the grass should be mowed and compacted well without damaging the green's curves.

How to green roll

1. Roller weight: The rollers used on the green can weigh up to 435 kg depending on the type.
Recently, lightweight rollers weighing around 200 kg are being widely adopted.
2. Rolling frequency: It is safe to use 3 times a week. If you use it more than 4 times, the quality of the grass will significantly deteriorate due to soil hardening. Especially during high temperature stress in summer, roll it less than 3 times a week and increase the cutting height by about 0.8mm.
3. Duration of rolling: The duration of rolling is that the green speed improves by about 30cm on the same day, and only increases by about 7.5cm the next day. According to another research result, rolling three times a week greatly improves the green speed, and the result can last up to 6 days after the voltage.
4. Precautions when rolling: When making a rolling operation plan, you should consider factors that put stress on the green, such as the number of visitors per year to the course.
5. Additional effects of rolling: A Michigan State University test showed that rolling after early morning pre-weeding can reduce the occurrence of Dallas spot disease, and collecting the pre-weeding debris can possibly suppress the occurrence of night moths.
Should you roll and prune in hot and humid weather? Experts say to do both. At least every other day is not a big deal, and skipping prune and just rolling during hot weather is one way to relieve summer stress.
Just because it's a stressful time doesn't mean there won't be rounds, so a balance of consistent course conditions and overall turf health is needed.
This means that on some days, both rolling and mowing may be done to ensure course conditions, based on factors such as playability, grass health, and the presence of events (events or competitions), while on other days, rolling or mowing may be skipped depending on how the grass reacts.
