The teeing ground, teeing area, or tee-box is the starting point where you place a tee and take your tee shot. It is the area where you take your first shot on every hole. The tee box is slightly elevated from the surrounding ground and is rectangular and flat, and the grass is usually mowed as finely as possible, like the green.
As of January 2019, the term 'teeing ground' has been changed to 'teeing area' in accordance with the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of England (R&A) and the United States Golf Association (USGA).
Teeing grounds and fairways made of Korean grass have the peak growth period in the summer, so it is advisable to carry out sufficient renewal work such as vertical mowing, slicing, and coreing in late June to early July to induce new growth of aged grass and remove accumulated replacement. In particular, in places where soil is severely hardened due to intensive trampling, such as air fronts, regular teeing grounds, and green collars, it is advisable to perform aeration work to sufficiently promote grass growth.
